December 2005 - Hallowed be thy Name

Merry Christmas!
How did Jesus teach us to pray?
part 2

After this manner, therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in

heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Matthew 6:9 KJV

Not a strict prayer, but a templateI pray that you do not just "say prayers" as I did in my younger years. I pray that you understand the meaning of the words and understand the one whom you are praying to.

Hallow-to make Holy.

How can we keep God's Name Holy and show respect for Him?
* Know more about Him by reading the Bible.
* When praying, keep our thoughts focused on Him and who He is, instead of the focus primarily on ourselves.
* Worship Him in behaviour and truth.
* Do not use his Name in slang or profanity.

ONE GOD WITH MANY NAMES:

Throughout the Bible, God reveals Himself through various Names and Titles. Many times Jesus is called or compared to those
Names. Each Name reveals what God is like and describes Him. This is a way for us to know more about Him.

The God of creation is the one and only true God, who to provide for our salvation has revealed Himself as:
*God the Father
*God the Son
*God the Holy Spirit

Here are some of His Names,
meanings and some scripture references.

IMMANUEL meaning "GOD WITH US"

It's outspread wings will cover the breadth of your land,
O' Immanuel!.....Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us.
Isaiah 8:8-10

Jesus is God in our midst. In Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form. This Name indicates that Jesus is more than man. He is also God.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14

The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel - which means "God with us" Matthew 1:23

The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his wonderful word. Hebrews 1:3

YHWH or JEHOVAH-ROHI meaning 'THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD"

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. Psalm 23:1-3

We all like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6

Here Jesus speaks of being the shepherd: "I am the good shepherd;
the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.  John 10:11

I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-just asmy Father knows me and I know the Father-and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice and there will be one flock and one shepherd.   John 10:14-18

May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our LORD Jesus, that great Shepherd of thesheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20

YHWH-SHALOM  meaning "THE LORD IS PEACE"

The LORD  said to Moses, Tell Aaron and his son's, "This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: "The LORD bless you
and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace." Numbers 6:22-27

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Here Jesus speaks of giving us his peace: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  John 14:27
