November 2005-Our Father

How did Jesus teach us to pray?

After this manner, therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven...
Matthew 6:9 KJV (more next month)

I thought of my younger years and how I prayed the "Our Father" 1000's of times! Yes so true, but it was prayed without understanding. I think now:
Who is Our Heavenly Father?

-1st person in the Holy Trinity.
-Our creator.
-Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
-Father of all creation.
-The one who knows all of our thoughts, everything about us. Whose thoughts of us outnumber the grains of sand. (Psalm 139). Who knows how many hairs are on our heads.(Matthew 10:30). Who has engraved us on the palms of his hands(Isaiah 49:16).

Who is the Lord's prayer for? It is for believers! God is the Father of all men by creation, but those who are His, are those who have been adopted into the family of God, because of faith in Jesus Christ:

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:26 NIV

Yet to all who receive Him, to those who become children of God-children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
John 1:12-13 NIV

No one who denies the son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also. 1 John 1:23 NIV

If you do not know Jesus, I plead for you to put your faith in Him today!!!! Please believe His words!

Because you are sons, God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba Father"
  Galatians 4:5 NIV

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called Children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1 NIV

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba Father. Romans 8:15 KJV

When we pray "Our Father in Heaven" we are not saying "My Father" but "Our Father" For those who are "in Christ", we are a body of believers all over the entire world. We are a family and he is our heavenly Father who loves us so.

Let us go to the ALMIGHTY COMFORTER:

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the
comfort we ourselves have received from God.
2 Corinthians 3:4 NIV
